What resources are you using at your placement?
At my placement I am using the software previously discussed, and to find other info I am able to use the internet. Google is my best friend! I also have a couple of list of important phone numbers that I may need frequently, such as banks and other Lawyer's offices. I have used these lists already.
Review the list of responsibilities submitted by you before your placement. Indicate whether the list was accurate or whether you were exposed to different responsibilities or did fewer than were listed.
So far I am doing everything given to me, except for using PC Law. When I first started I opened a couple of files in PC Law. I haven't done that since, but I believe it is because I am the only one working now, as before there were two of us.
What do you consider two of your strengths? How are you using them to your advantage at this placement?
One of the strengths is definetly Organizational. Since I have started working here, I try to keep everything neat and organized. I have managed to file all the papers that were piled up, and that is something that I keep up with. That pleases my boss very much.
The second strength that I would mention is what makes me stand out from other candidates, and it is that I am bilingual in Spanish and English. The lawyer I work for is the same, so she has quite a few Spanish speaking clients, and they have begun asking form someone who speaks Spanish. It feels nice to be requested. hehe.
That being said, I left week two feeling much better about my job. I feel more confident and I feel better about what I am doing and what my role is. We shall see what week three brings my way!!!
Hello Cindy,
ReplyDeleteYour comment on "Google being your best friend" made me giggle. It's very true though. When I need a phone number or postal code or anything really, Google is always their to help. I also keep a list of phone numbers and law firms that we interact with on a daily basis.
Are you upset you haven't been using PC Law much? Did you enjoy using it in our courses?
Yes girl! Organization is key! I've learned to keep my desk neat because it's just so much easier when you might be on a time crunch and you need to find something.
It's exciting to know that your first language has become an asset at your firm. It's hard being the only Romanian at my firm when everyone else speaks Portuguese. Clients are constantly coming in and all I can do is point down the hall to the gentlemen who I know they are looking to talk to but am not able to communicate with them more than hi and bye. It makes me sad sometimes that I don't know Portugese and makes me wish I did know.
It's good to know that your feeling much better about your job and your feeling much more confident as time is moving on.
I am definetly not missing PC Law! Haha. I prefer Conveyancer waaay better!
DeleteHi Cindy, great post! You cannot be any more accurate about Google! I always use it at the law firm whenever I stumble across anything or even for Real Estate purposes. Because you are the only one at the law firm and there isn't the two of you anymore, does it ever get overwhelming? I love your posts and can't wait to read your posts on the next weeks blog ! Enjoy your week !
ReplyDeleteHey Suzie!
DeleteNot really, the other girl was only part time, and I am full time. So I find that it is okay. I also don't get overwelhmed easily. It might though, as I get more responsibilty. We will see.
